Kurupt is orignally from Philly, but he moved to LA and we adopted him as an LA/West Coast artist. He puts it down for LA, but never forgets to rep Philly. Since it’s the time for the rise of the new west, I put forth that we adopt Gangsta Gibbs. He is more West Coast than artists FROM California. This video is just another exhibit of why I feel Gangsta Gibbs should be considered one of LA’s own. Gibbs, TM:103, CTE. West Coast.

To end the trilogy, if you will, for the night. The first video was about a break up, the second, about that ex girl, and finally, this one, about new love.

I’m not really the sexist, womanizing, playboy I portray on tumblr/twitter. I just need to find the right girl i guess. Fly Union x Dom KENNEDY.

Lately I’ve been having huge debates with would be hip hop fans who say that the music is crap now and hasn’t been good since BIG died. I also have to fight off retard comments that the West Coast has fallen off, with Snoop making silly records with Katy Perry, Katy Perry (although not a hip hop artist, she loves to remind us all she is from California, which wouldnt be so bad if she would keep her mouth closed and wear skimpier outfits but I digress), Dr Dre’s Detox, Game’s silly face tats/mood swings. Personally, I LOVE where hip hop is at. We have 4 out of the 5 best song Grammy nominees. For better or worse, it has progressed to where it’s at now, and I love it. After hanging out with my boy Os this past Saturday for his birthday, I decided to make a mixtape. It might not be for EVERYONE, but there is something in it for everyone. I tried my best to rep everything that makes the West great, from those laid back songs that you can blaze one up to riding down the block going 20 mph to that intense gangsta rap shit that we are known for. It has the experimental songs that are ahead of its time, to shit you can play in the club while pouring out bottles of Gin and Hennessy over this broads heads, well that last one might just be for me, but you get the idea. From the super lyrical to the easy to understand, it’s all there. I tried to keep it short, I cut it down from 60 of my favorite songs, BTW these are just the newest songs I’ve been listening to for the past month. I have newer shit from these artists but I haven’t heard it yet. Hopefully someone will enjoy it. Download it HERE. Its 200 mbs, sorry, but totally worth it. I was gonna get into how the theme of this mixtape was how everyone is connected to Dr Dre Lost style, but its late and I just wanna zone out and listen to some more of these tracks before I fall asleep. In case you missed it before, you can download it, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE. LA stand up, West Coast stand up. We’re back.

LA is My Playground

Directed by Jason Madison

I love hip hop, that is apparent. I love LA, I’m from So Cal. The one thing I love more than both is film. With that said, I love this documentary/short film about 3 different hip hop artists from LA. The visuals alone from different areas around this beautiful city make it worth checking out alone, but like any great documentary, you get to see the behind the scenes of what goes into making hip hop music, particularly here in LA. People always ask me where is the West when comes to music being made, well hopefully people will see this and realize just because it isn’t being packed assembly line style and shipped out Wal-Mart, doesn’t mean the West Coast isn’t out there selling. We just happen to go back to the more organic, free-range, healthy way of doing things, as is the way here in California. I rep for my city and especially for my state. Burn one for LA, CA for me. Peace.
