K’Naan ft Nas - Nothing To Lose

Who is really fucking with K’Naan? Not a lot of people, but Nas and Marlow are for sure. My name is my name, muthafucka. I stay on the block!

Nas featuring The Roots - Nasty (live)

The Roots truly are the hardest working band in hip hop, with that said, can someone convince them to do an unplugged session with Nas like they did was Jay. I’d pay good money to hear a live, ?uestlove backed, version of Genesis, NY State of Mind, Life’s a Bitch, basically anything off Illmatic, Stillmatic, Hip Hop is Dead, etc. I am pretty sure if ANYONE could bring Lauren Hill out of hiding to sing on The World Is Mind, it would be Nas & ?uestlove. Let’s make it happen Hip Hop.

DC artist Demont Peekaso is painting the Hip Hop Mount Rushmore. As you can see it is missing one more artist. You can click here to vote. As you can see he currently as Pac, Big, and Jay but he missing someone else. The nominees are:
Eminem
Ice Cube
Nas
Kanye West
Big Daddy Kane
Kool G. Rap
KRS-One
Lil’ Wayne
Almost everyone who reads this would probably assume I voted for Wayne. Wrong, Greatest rappers of all time? Eminem of course. Right now Em and Nas are neck and neck. Get your votes up. posted on 11.01.12

Best Of 2011: Verses

4. Nas - Outro (off Carter IV)

Nas hasn’t been nearly as active as most people this year. You can probably argue 3 Stacks deserves this spot since he was been on over 30 different songs this year, but I’ll tell you why I think Nasir Jones deserves this spot. I’ll admit, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Carter IV. I had high hopes, sadly it just felt like the same Wayne we have been getting since Carter III. The album almost felt like Carter III.5 that isn’t I hit the outro and Nas ripped his verse. This was song that I played back 10 times the first time I listened to the album. I didn’t even get to Shyne’s or Bustas verse because Nas steals the shows. He steals the show off the whole album.

Add that to Nas dropping his single off Life is Good, Nasty, which was just CLASSIC Nas. Produced by Salaam Remi who was doing his best DJ Premier impersonation, Nas just went in and merked that beat, no hook, just 4 mins of straight SPITTiNG. Nas reminded everyone this year why he is the People’s King of New York.

Enjoy his verse from Outro, I am sure you will play it back several times. I know I did.

I mean, Kanye’s a genius—I love the dude—but Watch The Throne should have been Nas and Jay. Niggas would still be talking about that even if the album was wack. I’m not taking shit away from ‘Ye. Kanye and RZA should go in maybe. Maybe Kanye and Dr. Dre. But as far as emcees, Nas and Jay.

I couldn’t agree more with Meth. I have my issues with WTT. I don’t think it’s great. I’m wasn’t excited with the concepts, the rhymes, a lot of the beat selections, I thought it was ok. But Meth is beyond right. ‘Ye should have taken a step back, got behind the boards and produced the shit out that album for Nas and Jay. We’ve heard Jay over Yeezy tracks, but Nas. Damn, that shit cray. Oh well, maybe one day we can get a Nas/Jay album filled with subliminal shots between the two, Jay flexing his lyrical muscle and Nas stealing some of that thunder with his verses.
And Ye SHOULD do an album with RZA. So Appalled was awesome, can you imagine a whole album with that sound? RZA pulls some of the crazies fucking samples and Ye knows how to takes those samples and turn them into hits. No one does it better than those two….well Dre, and as much as I would love to hear a Dre/Ye record. At this point, I’d be happy to just hear some 5 year old/new Detox rejected track Dre deemed was not good enough for Detox, so expecting him to make time to do a whole album with Ye is pipe dream.
RZA/Ye & Nas/Jay. Someone make that shit happen. Obama give 900 Million dollars to help stimulate the economy. I’d make that shit a reality, be crowned the savoir of hip hop, then celebrate by spending 5 nights 200 million dollars in the swankiest strip club in Vegas. Hip Hop Evolution from the RE:GENERATION documentary film project

DJ Premier was given Classical and began his immersion into the genre with Bruce Adolphe, a former classical music professor at Juilliard. They met at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music not far from DJ Premier’s home in NY. After learning about classical music theory, the inspirations of some of the genre’s most profound composers and how traditional pieces are structured, DJ Premier went out and bought tons of classical symphonies on vinyl to mash up his own creation. We then took that mash-up and orchestrated it for sheet music. In the first step of the actual recording process, DJ Premier partnered with Stephen Webber, a professor and conductor at the Berklee College of Music. Steven taught Premier how to conduct and helped him in studio with the 58-piece Berklee Symphony Orchestra you hear on the track. Of all the takes, the one you hear is the “wild” version (which means they recorded it without the metronome in their headphones) DJ Premier conducted himself. Then DJ Premier brought that instrumental track back home to NY and Nas laid down his rhyme on top of it.

I Respect The Shooter…..

When ever I see well done music video I always think about that Jay line, Y’All Respect Who Got Shot/I respect The Shooter from 30 Something off that Kingdom Come album.

Y’All respect Nas, but some respect has got to be had for Jason Goldwatch. He made a gritty video that is also clean & polished, just like the song. The gritty bass loop, reminds me of Made You Look, but with Nas’ lyrics that cut like a surgical blade through the beat. Gritty rhymes that work on multiple levels. I mean muthafuckers that said Nas fell off, The Nasty is back, y’all muthafuckers better watch. Also, can we talk about his guest spot on Carter IV. Look who crept in, with automatic weapons, reppin QB ‘til the death of him…..Damn. Sorry Tune, Nasty Nas murked his verse like Jay would do to anyone who runs up on Yeezy the wrong way.

Anyway, Jason Goldwatch, that video is hot playboy. Taking Nas back to his roots on a song that is reminiscent of something off Illmatic. Shit’s dope. Everything I enjoy in a good video, simple concept, amazing execution. Looking forward to your next video.
