Side by Side Trailer
Side by Side is a documentary directed by Chris Kenneally in which Keanu Reeves (who also produced) talks about film and video with a wide variety of filmmakers, including Steven Soderbergh, James Cameron, David Lynch, Richard Linklater, Martin Scorsese, Andy & Lana Wachowski, Christopher Nolan, Walter Pfister, David Fincher and many, many more.
I’ll be honest, I kind of feel like Soderbergh in this trailer. I love film, I shot my movie on film, I love the look of film, but honestly, it’s been maxed out. Where else can you go? You can’t do 3D, it isn’t instant. As much as I love film, I want to call it up and say, sorry I’ve met someone else.
You can quote me on this when I say 3D and digital film making is the way of the future. Film will still be around, but I don’t see shooting a movie digitally as being this evil, lower quality way to shoot something. I can’t wait for this documentary, I’ll probably wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray as to not seem like a huge nerd running to the theater to see a movie about Film vs Digital.
An interesting look at one of my favorite director’s technique. The Spielberg Face.
An animated tribute to Drive
I’d watch this cartoon if they released it as a weekly TV show on HBO. The animation is pretty bad ass.
“In my view, the only way to see a film remains the way the filmmaker intended: inside a large movie theater with great sound and pristine picture. Music and dialogue that doesn’t fully reproduce the soundtrack of the original loses an essential element for its appreciation. Simply put, the film loses its power.
Short of that, the technically sophisticated Blu-ray disc, of which I’ve been a supporter since its inception, is the closest we’ve come to replicating the best theatrical viewing experience I’ve ever seen. It allows us to present in a person’s living room films in their original form with proper colors, aspect ratio, sound quality, and, perhaps most importantly, startling clarity.
Which is why it has never made sense to me that those preoccupied with how movies are delivered have for years written off “physical media” (i.e., movies on discs) as “dead” even though the evidence shows it isn’t happening and won’t for years to come. Technology will need to make many more huge leaps before one can ever view films with the level of picture and sound quality many film lovers demand without having to slide a disc into a player, especially with the technical requirements of today’s 3D movies.
”
— Ridley Scott on the proper way to watch movies.
Last night I went to see #Super8Secret last night at the Arclight. If you follow me on twitter you know i had a lot of thoughts to say in regards to the whole fiasco. I was surprised to find that /Film published one of my tweets in their article about the event. Of course that doesn’t satisfy me at all. In fact I am little upset. Of all the gems* I was tweeting last night, of all the comically genius** tweets I had THIS is the one they chose to publish. BULLSHIT! I’m gonna have to up the ante at the next screening/movie review I do.
Oh by the way, I loved Super 8. It isn’t for everyone, but I loved it. I wanna petition to have Kyle Chandler put in more movies along with Connie Britton? Stop playing and watch Friday Night Lights, then go see Super 8.
*more like plastic play gems you give kids which break in about 2 mins, not the good kind of gems
**kind of like how Evan Almighty was comically genius. My comedy appeals to the immature 13 yr old sect.

Starla trailer
The newest movie from Rik Cordero.
I’m a little excited for this. I like Rik, I think he has a unique visual style. Love the handheld look he brings to a lot of his work. This should be a visually interesting movie if nothing else. I’ll keep you updated on when it drops.
